Workshop Overview (2 Days):
Capturing the beautiful vistas that surround us has never been more enticing than when using soft pastel. Whether you are painting the fresh colours of spring, the lush colours of summer, or the rich tones of autumn, pastel conveys an immediate vibrancy from the moment you begin your painting.
In this two-day workshop we will work from our photo reference in a studio setting to complete our landscape painting. We will discuss cropping for design, planning for impact and enhancing colour relationships for an optimum painting. We will focus on elements that will strengthen composition and how to apply them. There will be emphasis on values and light. Personal evaluation and direction will encourage you to move to your next level of achievement.
Roberta will begin by demonstrating her initial approach and explaining each step as the painting develops. From start to finish, Roberta will provide knowledge, direction, and information to help you improve your painting skills and goals. As we proceed, she will give individual direction to each artist and offer input that will lend depth and texture to your painting.
Pastels are very effective when building your painting, subtly blending your colours, and creating depth, drama, and light. You will be able to sample the best pastels available from Roberta’s own selection to become more familiar with brands and colours you may like. Information regarding how and where to purchase your pastel supplies will be given.
Throughout the workshop, you will receive visual demonstrations, one-on-one instruction and consultation at your easel that will encourage and inspire you.
This workshop is suitable for every level of painting skill, whether you are already a pastel artist or you would like to learn how to paint with the velvety jewel colours pastel has to offer. The goal is to improve aspects of your current painting abilities and, with Roberta’s personal attention, strengthen weaker areas and challenge yourself to reach a new level of achievement. This may be just the inspiration that will energize your summer paintings and make art exciting again.
