Still life painting has so much more to recommend it than many artists realize. With infinite subject choices and composition possibilities, the stories that your paintings can tell will never fail to excite your imagination. Throughout the history of art, still life paintings by the most famous artists have endured as valuable classic narratives.
The choices you can find in your own home at any given time, make Still Life subjects more available and convenient than any other subject matter. Reach for sparkling glassware, reflective metals, and gleaming china or colorful textured fruit, old books, and heirloom vases with showy flowers. Fabrics, carpets, textured wall coverings, or wood surfaces are all interchangeable supports for each new painting. Anything that doesn’t get up and walk away can be transformed in your composition by light and color.
Still Life is my favorite choice to paint because it can be a simple, uncluttered presentation, or as complex as any painting I have ever tackled. If you think Still Life may be boring, simplistic, and unchallenging, then maybe its time to take another look.
This workshop will show you how the kaleidoscope of colors available in soft pastel are perfect to express the bright and the subdued, the dramatic and the vibrant images that you encounter in your Still Life compositions.
Join us for this opportunity to share the comradery of other artists and experience this workshop with an internationally acclaimed Master Pastelist whose first passion is Still Life painting.
Discover the textures and effects pastels can convey in your paintings. In this two-day workshop, we will discuss what makes a still life painting stand apart from others, how to make your paintings more dramatic, and focus on colour choices and technique. There will be emphasis on value and light. Personal evaluation and discussion will inspire confidence to advance your skills.
From start to finish, Roberta will provide the knowledge, direction, and information to help you improve your current painting skills and goals. You will be encouraged to try the best pastels available in the world from her own selection to become more familiar with brands you may like. Throughout the workshop, you will receive visual demonstrations, one-on-one instruction and consultation at your easel that will challenge you to reach for a next level of achievement.
Whether you are a pastel artist or you would like to learn how to paint with the velvety jewel colors soft pastel has to offer, this workshop is suitable for every level of painting skill. All information will be useful for novices to advanced painters. The goal is to improve aspects of your current painting abilities and with Roberta’s personal attention, strengthen weaker areas and challenge yourself to reach a new level of achievement.
