What comes to your mind when you hear the names Falconet, Pradier, Allegrain, Pajou, Schoenewerk, Coustou, and the list goes on. Undisputed masters, they are! How do they benefit artists of today? The tradition of sculpture drawing goes back hundreds of years as a time honored anchor in gestural, volumetric and representational study. Amazing sculptures from the classical and modern periods remain as iconic examples for ideal academic and poetic gestural study.
In this 4 WEEK TRADITIONAL DRAWING WORKSHOP, you will study and learn to draw several masterpieces from great European sculpture collections while gleaning solid visual lessons in portraiture and figurative measuring, anatomy, volumetric representation and finishing. Join the Mark Anthony Traditional Drawing Workshop entitled: AMAZING LESSONS FROM UNSUNG HEROES OF VISUAL REPRESENTATION.
The act of manual drawing is our most immediate response to our visual world as it equally challenges our intellectual and intuitive interpretation, our visual comprehension and our ability to efficiently express what we see. Drawing has been described as the most determinative, self-dependent aspect of the artistic process. For good reason, great masters, old and contemporary, practiced and practice manual drawing regardless of the preferred medium of interest.
All 4 sessions will include full demonstrations from a blank page. Artists of all levels are welcome to join this hands-on workshop.
About the Instructor - Mark Anthony:
Following the traditional models of European ateliers, Mark Anthony www.markanthonystudio.com teaches an old-world approach to visual observation and manual drawing practice based on an analysis of great masterworks, sculpture and the live model, scapes and still life. For over 30 years, Mark has lectured and taught hundreds of students of all levels a fundamental appreciation of artistic study using drawing as a platform for exploration and expression. Focusing on interpreting and understanding how you see rather than merely copying what you see, Mark leads each student through a comprehensive analysis of underlying visual principles and application through lectures, examples and demonstrations. This approach effectively equips the student to work directly from life with great confidence, accuracy and emotional freedom.
