Acrylic Anarchy: Loose and Lively Landscapes

    Workshop Information

    November 22nd - 23rd, 2025

    10:00 AM - 4:00 PM (PST)

Location: Federation Academy on Granville Island,  1310 Johnston St, Vancouver, BC V6H 3S1

Level: Suitable for Beginner & Intermediate Level

    Medium: Acrylic

    Workshop Overview:

The primary goal of the workshop is to encourage participants to approach landscape painting with an experimental attitude and the idea that, “It’s only ten bucks worth of materials. Have some fun.” That isn’t to say that painting doesn’t require some knowledge of the principles of design and some discipline to apply them.  However, sometimes the anxiety of thinking we have to produce a “finished product” often results in tight drawing, tight brushwork, and slavish attention to photo sources.  Instead, let’s aim to challenge ourselves to “loosen up.”  Along the way, we’ll talk about composition, values, and colour as they apply to our paintings.

Participants are encouraged to bring several landscape photos as references.  The majority of the time will be spent painting, so make sure you have enough photos, canvasses, and snacks!

About the Instructor - Perry Haddock, SFCA

Perry Haddock is a West Coast artist celebrated for his bold acrylic landscapes and energetic brushwork. A senior signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (SFCA), he retired from a career in education  and began to pursue painting full-time—and hasn’t looked back in over 25 years.

From B.C.’s rugged coastline to far-flung destinations, Perry’s vivid colours and expressive style capture the spirit of place. His work fuels popular workshops and fills private collections across Canada, the U.S., Europe, China, and Australia.

Based in Surrey, B.C., Perry paints from his home studio and continues to explore the world, always gathering inspiration for the next canvas.
