Interactive Online Critiques:
To get to that “next level” you’ll sometimes need the constructive feedback of an experienced critic/fellow artist to drive your work forward. Critiques will help you grow as an artist and help you develop your work. Hear what is working in your art and ask for input on your current challenges. You’ll receive an overall evaluation of your artwork's strengths and weaknesses and a clear idea of how to move forward with your art by Brenda Matsen, SFCA.
About the instructor - Brenda Matsen, SFCA:
Brenda Matsen is an international award-winning representational artist. Growing up on a farm in northern British Columbia and living in rural communities fostered her love of nature and observing animals in their environments. Brenda enjoys working from her own reference photos she has taken of wildlife in western Canada. Brenda's works are enjoyed in numerous private collections in Canada, the US and Europe.
Brenda is a Signature Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, a Master Pastelist with Pastel Artists.CA and an Elected Member of the Society of Canadian Artists. After Rescuing a Mallard ducking in the Spring of 2024 and taking it to MARS Wildlife Rescue, Brenda looked for ways to help support the good work they do for wildlife in her community and outlying area which led to Brenda applying for and being accepted as an Associate Member of the Artists for Conservation (AFC) with MARS Wildlife Rescue as her organization of choice to support.
Brenda is inspired by the moments that remind us to pause and observe the world around us and build the stories of our lives. She is passionate about creating realistic artwork to capture those moments in time and create an opportunity for the viewer to come closer and more fully experience the environment where we live, work and play.
Brenda's love of learning and creating has been a constant theme throughout her life. After raising a family in northern British Columbia and a career spanning 30 plus years in health care in the north, Brenda and her husband along with their dogs moved to Vancouver Island in 2018 where she now focuses on her art. Brenda returns to northern BC regularly to visit family and friends, always stopping along the way to enjoy the scenery and take photos as she travels throughout western Canada.
