Online Critique With Kit Bell, AFCA

Course Information

Friday, March 28th

10.00 AM - Noon (PDT)

Online Via Zoom

Open to all levels!

Limited to 10 students!

Interactive Online Critiques:

To get to that “next level” you’ll sometimes need the constructive feedback of an experienced critic/fellow artist to drive your work forward. Critiques will help you grow as an artist and help you develop your work. Hear what is working in your art and ask for input on your current challenges. You’ll receive an overall evaluation of your artwork's strengths and weaknesses and a clear idea of how to move forward with your art by FCA Associate Member Kit Bell.

About Kit Bell, AFCA:

Kit Bell, a native of Vancouver, BC, has always had a passion for art, even as her initial career led her into the world of computers following her graduating from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in 1974. In 1989, Kit seized the chance to shift gears, studying at the Ottawa School of Art and exhibiting her work in galleries and shows in Ottawa.

Although her artistic pursuits were briefly set aside due to a busy career in horse training and coaching after moving to Kelowna, BC in 1992, Kit returned to painting in 2007 and hasn't looked back. A versatile artist, she continuously refines her technique and artistic vision while delving into various media.

A prominent figure in the artistic community, Kit serves as a frequent instructor for the Federation of Canadian Artists, providing critiques, mentorship, and workshops. When external factors such as the pandemic necessitated a shift to online teaching, Kit adeptly leveraged her computer skills to reach a broader and more diverse audience.

In her own words, Kit explains that her work is predominantly inspired by the tranquility of landscapes and the natural world. Her art is a response to the ever-changing effects of light and the evolving seasons. The serene beauty of quiet places, enveloped by trees and botanicals, serves as a recurring theme in her work. Her varied artistic toolkit allows her to select the optimal process for bringing a vision to life, sharing her trained artist's eye and imagination with others.

Student Testimonials:

  • "Kit communicated clearly and her comments were thoughtful, detailed but   concise and really zeroed in on the essence of the paintings."

  • "Kit gave me a few things to consider and to think about and a direction to take. It was very helpful."

  • "I liked how we got to hear Kit's critique of all the paintings and not just ours. I think Kit's comments were all very constructive and I especially liked hearing things that could improve my own work going forward. I would love to do it again with a couple paintings now that I have a little more insight into composition. I think she was very informative."

  • "I learned a lot more about composition! Very helpful information was presented. Thank you Kit Bell :-)"

  • "Thanks to Kit for taking the time to prepare so much thoughtful criticism for each artist. Much appreciated."
