    Workshop Information

All Sessions Recorded! Recording links will be made available to registrants.

    Date: November 7th - 28th, 2026 (4 Saturdays)

    Time: 10.00 AM - 1.00 PM (PDT)

    Location: Online Via Zoom

    Level: Intermediate to Advanced Levels

    Workshop Overview:

Join Christine Code in painting emotional skies with a combination of palette knives and brushes. This is a four-part online workshop. We will explore a new sky each week: sunset, cloudy blue sky, nocturne, and rain/lightning. All throughout, we will discuss the importance of value, composition/design, colour relativity, mood, atmosphere, interesting mark-making and several tips to create a variety of sky conditions. With the fundamentals in mind, we can paint more confidently - loose, free and without fear.

About the Instructor - Christine Code

"I'm a Canadian artist living in rural Saskatchewan. Working in oils, I enjoy the techniques of impressionism and tonalism. I aim to convey a particular mood or atmosphere in each piece through interesting brushwork and palette knife passages. I regularly paint en plein air, taking my easel outdoors into the rolling hills and sprawling farmland. The knowledge gained through direct observation outdoors informs my larger paintings in the studio.”

Christine's work has been juried into several national and international exhibitions. She has won awards through the Federation of Canadian Artists, Society of Canadian Artists, National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society, Oil Painters of America, Modern Impressionist Salon and the PleinAir Salon. Her work has been featured in PleinAir Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine, and Modern Impressionist Magazine. She is represented by galleries in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Portugal.

    Testimonials:

    • “I loved this workshop! The hands on instruction and real time practice of mixing colours was super valuable. And the techniques demonstrated were paramount to us having a successful workshop. I would recommend this to everyone interested in painting!” - Saskatchewan Artist

    • “What an excellent experience! Getting to paint with one of your favorite artists is gold. As an artist myself, stepping out of my own studio to paint and learn alongside others is invaluable at any stage of the journey. Christine is informative and gives room to play and explore as she guides you through her process. Her plein air knowledge shines through as she talks about color, tone, and value, and the instinct she’s built through years of practice and study makes the workshop feel open, welcoming, and creatively rich.” - Manitoba Artist

    • “It had been a while since I worked in oils, and this palette knife skies workshop was just the thing to inspire me to get back at it! Christine is knowledgeable and very approachable – she welcomed our questions and made suggestions if we asked. The workshop moved at a quick pace and was just the right amount of challenge. Anyone with oil or acrylic experience could benefit from this workshop. I would suggest bringing a few quality knives to try during the workshop.” - Saskatchewan Artist

    • “Attending a workshop with artist Christine Code felt like true serendipity and was worth every mile I travelled from Montana to get to her. Finding Christine to help me paint sky and clouds was merely a part of the lesson. Christine shared her knowledge of creating a balanced composition with depth, value sensitivity with blending techniques; as well as conserving paint, maintaining paintbrushes, and framing considerations. She encouraged me to continue my own style forward. The two days were beyond delightful and will follow me throughout my own creative journey. Across the borders and into the sky, thank you, Christine Code!” - Montana Artist
