FCA Studio Mentorships
Studio mentorships are your opportunity to work with a professional artist in the Federation Academy on Granville Island. You’ll meet with Sue throughout April, May and June to work on your paintings, ask questions and further develop your practice.
Invest in yourself and commit to two days per month, and see how your artwork and techniques improve. For artists without their own studio, this is a great way to access a creative space, tailor made for art-making. In addition to 4hrs of mentoring artists will receive an extra 3hrs of access to our classroom space to work on their paintings and communicate with their peers.
With plenty of demonstrations, one-on-one teaching and lively discussion, this mentorship is limited to nine registrants.
Benefits of Studio Mentorship
Mentorship Overview:
6 In-Person Sessions
If you are an abstract painter or would like to be, join Sue Cowan in her studio mentorship program. Sue will help you plan your goals and preferences for the duration of the course.
This map of your intentions will be your guide as you discover what and how you love to paint. Joyful experimentation combined with consideration of the principles and elements of design will lead to exciting paintings that reflect your own unique abstract style.
About the Instructor - Sue Cowan, SFCA
A supportive and encouraging teacher, Sue is an award winning artist who has taught drawing and painting for over 25 years. Through a mix of guidance and personalized coaching, Sue helps new and emerging artists to gain the skill and confidence to develop their own personal vision.
Born in Scotland and based in Coquitlam, Sue celebrates the beauty of experiences and objects that make up everyday life with collections including landscapes, figures, portraits, still life, and Celtic stones. She loves to immerse herself in nature and regularly works in “plein air” (painting outside), trying to capture impressions before the ever-elusive light changes.
In 2011, she was awarded senior signature status by the Federation of Canadian Artists in recognition of her artwork. Her work has been showcased throughout the Tri Cities, Vancouver and in China.
